Austrians are less enthusiastic about artificial intelligence (AI) than people in other European countries. However, acceptance has recently increased in this country as well: according to a recent study by management consultancy EY, 64 percent view AI positively, 12 percentage points more than a year ago. In Europe, the average is 70 percent, 7 percentage points more than in 2024.

Almost eight out of ten respondents in Europe (78 percent) currently use AI applications, representing a six percentage point increase from the previous year. Austria is also at the bottom of the rankings here, but the proportion of users has risen from 69 percent (2024) to 73 percent. Switzerland (85 percent), Spain (83 percent), and Portugal (83 percent) are the most active.

Experiences with AI are predominantly rated positively: 83 percent of Europeans report having had good or very good experiences; one in five even claim to have had exclusively positive experiences. At 79 percent, Austria is at the lower end of the country comparison, but the figure still indicates overwhelming approval in this country as well.

Text creation tools most frequently used

The most widely used applications across Europe are text generation tools (61%) and voice assistants and chatbots (39% each). In Austria, as in the European average, the use of text creation programs such as ChatGPT (60 percent), chatbots (42 percent), and voice assistants (40 percent) dominates. The survey was conducted in nine European countries, involving nearly 5,000 employees, with 500 from Austria.
